How should teams control cutover, monitoring, and reporting during batch VM migration?

Batch VM migration needs more than data transfer. Teams must decide when to run full migration, how to reduce final downtime, when to trigger incremental synchronization, how to handle failed tasks, and how to report progress to project stakeholders.

How does incremental synchronization help with cutover?

VM migration generally includes full data transition and incremental data transition. During full data copy, source VMs can remain online. During final cutover, source VMs need to be shut down temporarily so the remaining incremental data can be synchronized before the target VM is started and validated.

Arcfra Migration Tool 2.0 supports full migration, incremental synchronization, and cutover policies within a migration plan. Full migration can be triggered immediately or scheduled. Incremental synchronization can be triggered manually or automatically on a recurring basis.

This helps teams move more data before the final maintenance window and reserve more of the window for final synchronization, target-side startup, and business validation.

What operations are available during execution?

On the migration plan detail page, teams can select multiple VMs and perform batch operations such as incremental synchronization, cutover, archive, and cleanup.

For abnormal tasks, the tool also provides operations such as pause, resume, cancel, retry, and bandwidth limit editing. These actions help teams respond to failures or resource pressure without treating every VM as a separate unmanaged exception.

What should teams monitor?

Large-scale migration requires continuous visibility into overall progress, running tasks, failed tasks, VMs ready for cutover, Worker load, task queues, and bandwidth usage.

Arcfra Migration Tool 2.0 adds an overview page with global migration status and system health summaries. It also provides Worker node views showing health status, active tasks, queued tasks, estimated completion time, version attributes, DNS servers, and mounted sites. The source post states that data refreshes automatically every 30 seconds.

How should reporting be handled?

Migration teams often need to report progress to project managers, business owners, and operations stakeholders. Arcfra Migration Tool 2.0 supports exporting migration plans locally in CSV or PDF format. These reports can support structured analysis, phase reviews, and project archives.

Exported reports do not replace business validation. A migration should still be closed only after target VM startup, application checks, network validation, and rollback criteria are reviewed.
